I really enjoyed getting to know Patience and William as well as watching their story unfold. The action happened right away and kept the storyline hopping throughout.

I liked Patience right from the start. She is strong and kind-hearted. She has had to step up and take control of things after her father passes away. While she does get frustrated with those around her who are oblivious to what she is going through or what strength of character it has taken for her to thrive during this time, she is also careful to mask those frustrations in order keep things running smoothly. This selflessness on her part really appealed to me. Consequently, this is what made William so appealing to me as well. He sees all of those traits in Patience that everyone else is blind to and it is those same traits that he begins to fall in love with. He is definitely flawed, but with the love of God, Patience and a special little girl, he begins to find his way onto the right path.

This is the second book in the Whispers on the Moors series. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first, although I like the main characters, Patience and William. What I like about Patience is that she is kind, responsible and devoted to her duties, though without recognition and gratitude from those who should be encouraging her. What I like about William is that, unlike in the previous book, he now begins to see the error of his ways and begins to turn to God in the process.

Very good historical novel with a little intrigue mixed with love. Great characters and highly recommended. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

About this book:

"Patience Creighton will finally find the peace she lost years ago--if she can open her heart and forgive the man who loves her.
Bright, sensible Patience knows what is expected of her. At twenty-five, her opportunity for a family of her own has passed, so she finds contentment teaching at her father's school for girls. When her father dies suddenly and her brother moves away to London, she is determined to keep her father's dream alive.
Confirmed bachelor William Sterling also knows what is expected of him, but mistake after mistake has left him teetering on ruin's edge. As master of Eastmore Hall he owns a great deal of land but possesses little money to manage the upkeep. He is desperate to find a new source of income, including the sacrifice of land connected to Rosemere.
When her brother returns with a new wife to take over management of the school, Patience is heartbroken to no longer be responsible for her beloved school and is forced to reassess God's purpose for her life. After her sister-in-law's matchmaking brings Patience and William together, they both learn new truths about their character and find a common goal in restoring Eastmore's legacy."

This really was such a sweet book! I only wish there was a bit more of the characters from first book in this series, "The Heiress of Winterwood". I'll be reviewing the newest book, "A Lady at Willowgrove Hall", in this series next week!

If I had realized this book was centered on William I don't know if I would have read it. I found myself confused throughout as William and his father were very clearly portrayed in the first book as gamblers and drunks. Now all of a sudden he is portrayed in this book as a love interest? It was strange and just didn't seem believable given Patience's background. I will say that what I enjoy from the first book and this one is the other relationships in the story. I feel those have good detail (the brother-sister fights, the relationship with staff) but the main characters just don't sit well with me.
