really good read. Fast paced and compelling.
I thought Arkady was gone! But, here he is again, and he\'s just as much fun as ever!
Russian intrigue in Cuba.
A suspenseful look at Cuba, good book. Notable Book.
Russian police procedural featuring Arkady Renko.
The books was good. It's been a while since I've read Martin Cruz Smith, Further, it was good reading another book with Renko in it. It's like meeting up with an old friend that you haven't seen in a while and catching up.
Martin Cruz Smith is as adept at describing a very warm climate as he is at describing the frozen north. Another complex compulsive read.
The writing was very descriptive and beautiful,I could really imagine the setting. But I thought the plot moved very slowly-a little boring.
I've been away from Arkady for a while, and I really enjoyed traveling with him again. The descriptions of life in Cuba were very interesting. I really enjoyed the book.
Arkady Renko is a very good Russian cop.He goes to Havana to seek out the reason his friend's body washed up in Havana Bay.The authors portrayal of Cuba in the death throes of Communisms death is very good reading
When the corpse of a Russian is hauled from the oily waters of Havana Bay, Arkady Renko comes to Cuba to identify the body. Looking for the killer, he discovers a city of faded loneliness, unexpected danger, and bewildering contradictions. His investigation introduces him to a beautiful Cuban policewoman; to the rituals of Santeria; to an American fugitive and a group of ruthless mercenaries. In this place where all things Russian are despised, where Hemingway fished and the KGB flourished, where the hint a music is always in the air, Arkady finds a trail of deceit that reaches halfway around the world-and a reason to relish his own life again.
Probably my favorite Arkady Renko book so far. It's amazing how Smith integrates Renko into a completely different culture.
