I don't go for anthologies usually since most times only one or two stories are true standouts. But The Haunting Season lived up to its name, and every single tale was an aficionado's delight. The spooks may be of the old fashioned variety but they're effective, like being spellbound at a nighttime campfire circle. Sure, I had my favorites: A Study in Black and White, The Chillingham Chair, Confinement; though truly, none disappoint. 4 stars.
