This is a lightweight gothic style romance about two people who are essentially in search of some answers about their families. It is also one of the sexier Harlequin Historicals I have read (though there's nothing too gross or clinical about it) and it doesn't have many plot surprises along the way. However I do like this author's writing style and that carried it for me. It did hold my interest and I did finish it.
