Card provides a modern yet ancient fairy tale that escapes easy dissection. Archetypes of Beauty, Youth, revenge, the magic of blood and pagan and Christian gods alike. A worthy read for any fantasy fan.

This is hands-down my favorite fantasy novel, one that I've read and re-read many times. If you're a Card fan you'll find this novel more in the style of Seventh Son, but with the emotional struggle and choices similar to Ender's Game. In my opinion this is Card at his finest. A beautiful book.

Very different from other Orson Scott Card books (Ender series)

One of my Fantasy top 5!, October 19, 2005
Reviewer: LiNCOLN PARK (USA)

I read this book when I was about 19 years old. I still can't forget it! It seems to combine fantasy with a bit of in-your-face whimsy. Fantastic!
Warning: you have to be a critical thinker to get this book. Otherwise, it will go right over your head.

Deep Fantasy, March 19, 2005
Reviewer: M. Lee (Orange County, CA USA)

I have never liked a fantasy book so much! I never read fantasy. It isn't my favorite genre, since I'm more of a realist person. Yet, this book is so unique and deep; it is touching, and it provokes the deep thoughts of the human body. I cried a little at the end! It is a good book with a good plot as well; it has a steady plot with events that are amazing. Trust me, you won't be dissapointed with this!

Really interesting book. It reminded me of a kabuki play. Well worth reading.

Odd plot, hard to follow. Creative, but with a childlike writing style that leaves the reader grasping for more.
