In the first book Harry Potter is a slave to his masters, and a personal punching bag for his cousin, Dudly. He has no memory of his parents dying, except for a flash of green light, that his aunt and uncle say is a car crash. He doesn't yet know he was a wizard.
great book would totally recommend it.
