#7 in Plaidy's Plantagenet series doesn't let down. Edward Longshanks was not just a mighty King, but also a loyal and faithful husband and good father. Things you don't normally read about in Kings from that era. He saw the weakness that his beloved father, King before himself, had shown that nearly destroyed the Monarchy, and vowed not to repeat that behaviour. Here you will read his story, conquering Wales and trying to bring the Scots into the realm to form one United Kingdom. I enjoyed the back story involved with the characters of the Welsh and Scotish rebels (Llewellyn, William Wallace, et al), and they all came to life in this riveting work of historical fiction.

These were stirring times and Edward's ambition was to unite the kingdoms of England, Scotland and Wales... The news of Henry III's death reached his son Edward I on the long road home from the Holy Land. Now he was England's king and a mon fit for destiny.
