It started with the murder of Kinsey Millhone's sometime drinking buddy, an insurance claims adjuster. But before long Kinsey stumbles onto a massive insurance scam. Going undercover as a wisecracking vamp, Millhone descends into the Los Angeles nether world of machismo and gang hideouts. Her companion, terrified at having crossed the violent crook Raymond Maldonado, is Bibianna Diaz -- no Girl Scout herself.

Very interesting and different from the earlier books in the Kinsey Millhone series.
This is the first of the "alphabet" books I've read by this author. It is well writen and captures your attention quickly. It's a good "who done it" and the ending is quite suprising.

This story gives an inside look at an LA crime gang with a main character suffering from Tourette's Syndrome which was an interesting twist. I enjoyed reading this after being away from the series for several years. Will have to read the end of the alphabet now!

Sue Grafton continues to keep the reader entertained in her alphabet series with H IS FOR HOMICIDE. Her unique writing style is more like someone telling his/her favorite story and you only have to sit back and enjoy the tale.

The trail leads into Los Angeles on her pursuit of a violent individual who may be the murderer. Kinsey is not afraid of following the suspect through the seedier side of LA and even into a bar adequately named "The Meat Locker" (gee, can you guess what kind of bar this is?). This is the fearless Kinsey Malone that we see in this saga.

Her continuing books revolving around Kinsey Millhone are interesting reading and not the type of books that are a cerebral exercise, but more of a story being told by a master storyteller. They are definitely books to be enjoyed.

Another great book
Another Kinsey Millhone book. She is a private detective. In this book she is infiltrates a gang that is staging wrecks for the insurance money. It's not one of my favorite books of this series but it's still worth reading.
Eighth in the series, okay to start here. Nice step back in time to the 80s! This one zipped right along for me, although in truth it's mostly Kinsey waiting her chance to make a break for it. I read some other reviews of this complaining that the undercover thing was out of character for Kinsey, but I remember the last 7 pretty well and I disagree. Kinsey doesn't take huge risks with her life, but she's always up for a little B&E, couple fibs here and there, and just generally doing what she needs to do in order to get the dirt. An impulsive decision at a crucial moment and there she is, stuck with the murderers. Loved the twist at the end.

Enjoyable series. Light read.
His name was Parnell Perkins, he was a claims adjustor for California Fidelity. He was killed shortly after midnight, shot at close range and left for dead in the parking lot outside of his office. To the cops it looked like a robbery. To Kinsey Millhone, it looked like he'd been murdered. Kinsey goes undercover and ventures into low-life crime. It may be her most complicated and risk-filled case.
Sue Grafton's alphabet books are the best! Love reading them all.
