A true Cadell delight, as bright and warm as the sun of Portugal...
Mr. Channing is devoted to his garden, but it is his youngest daughter Christine who is truly the apple of his eye. When Christine's love for James brings her unhappiness, Mr. Channing is persuaded to take Christine to Portugal for a holiday. The Channing's Portuguese adventure begins when they encounter the Baronesa de Narvao, who royally entertains them in her castle in a style whey they are totally unaccustomed--and most graciously presents them with a staggering bill. Then James also turns up in Portugal, accompanied by his doughty Scottish grandfather and the heiress his grandfather whants him to marry.
Here are some thoroughly entertaining people, some endearing, some eccentric, in a setting of infinite charm.
