I love Nicholas Sparks! The Guardian was actually my least favorite of his books, but I still loved it. It made me want to go out and get a Great Dane after reading it. Hahaha.

This book started out kind of slow for me, but I stuck with it and ended up not being able to put it down half way through. It is a good long book that surprised me in the end. I enjoyed the story line, it was very different than any other Nicholas Sparks books that I have read. It is also a good book for dog lovers.

Nicholas Sparks' books are timeless. I love each and every one. However, I would have to say this one is one of my favorites. This novel is about a widow, who receives a Great Dane puppy from her late husband to watch over her. It is an incredible small town story that will leave you in tears at the end. If you only buy one Nicholas Sparks novel, buy this one!

The Guardian is Nicholas Spark's best book, at least by my thinking. It held my attention and offered a pleasant lure to return when other things had demanded my time. Since the main character did not believe in supernatural "luck" (nor do I) I could go along with him as events unfolded with the same incredulity he experienced.

I enjoyed this book but, not as much as some of Nicholas Sparks' more popular titles, (The Notebook, A Walk to Remember.) This book is in excellent condition!

I don't generally like novels like this, but with The Notebook being such a great film, I thought I'd give N Sparks' writing a try. I thought the book was silly and the end - while vindicating - was SO unbelievably unrealistic that I was sorry I had wasted the time.

This was the first Nicholas Sparks book I read and it was wonderful!!!!!!! This book alone has made me go on to read many more of his books and see the movies associated with his books. Of course the books are ALWAYS better. However, I can't wait to see if this book gets turned into a film. I have to say that so far out of all of the books I've read from this author, this one has got to be his best by far. Not only does it have the traditional romance/love/tragedy/story, it also has mystery and suspense. It's a must read.!!!!!!!

Julie Barenson's young husband left her two unexpected gifts before he died - a great dane puppy named Singer and the promos that he would always be watching over he. Now, fours years have passed. Still living in the small town of Swansboro, North Carolina, twenty-nine-year-old Julie is emotionally ready to make a commitment to someone again. But who? Should it be Richard Franklin, the handsome, sophisticated engineer who treats her like a queen? Or Mike Harris, the down to earth nice guy who was her husband's best friend? Choosing one of them should bring her more happiness than she's had in years. Instead, Julie is soon fighting for her life in a nightmare spawned by a chilling deception and jealousy so poisonous that it has become a murderous desire...

This book was a page-turner, although the plot has been used by many other authors.

I find that I enjoy Nicholas Sparks later books better than this since his newer books seem to have more emotion in them and more time is spent developing the characters than was put into this book.

The book is still a good read due to the mystery aspect of it--I just wasn't overly sympathetic to the characters.

Not as good as the Notebook, but what could compare to that? A rather different story than some of his others, but still has a love story, and is an interesting read.

An explosive tale of betrayal and obsession, which looks into the darker realms of the heart. At the same time, this novel is a love story, and proof that often it is the ordinary things in life that become the most important.

From Amazon.com:
On Christmas Eve, Julie Barenson, 25 years old and newly widowed, finds an unexpected present-a Great Dane pup that her late husband, Jim, had arranged for her to receive after he died from a brain tumor. On that melodramatic note, bestselling author Sparks (Nights in Rodanthe) begins his latest love story, one in which he combines elements of romance with those of a thriller. Julie's new dog, Singer, turns out to be a better judge of character than she, which is unfortunate because the dog nearly gives away the book's ending when he growls warily at Richard Franklin, the new man in Julie's life. On the other hand, the pooch loves to be around Mike Harris, Jim's best friend, who has grown to love Julie. Richard's increasingly bizarre behavior causes Julie to break up with him, and his subsequent stalker tactics make for compelling action, especially when he plots to destroy the budding romance between Julie and Mike. But the writing is lax at best, with multiple point-of-view shifts in the course of one page or even one paragraph. Secondary characters are two-dimensional, such as Pete, the dumb cop who is taken in by the scheming Richard, and Andrea, Julie's co-worker at the local hair salon, a low-class broad from the wrong side of the tracks who might as well have "next victim" tattooed on her forehead. Yet Sparks fans clamor for his brand of love story, and, with the added punch of suspense, this one will be another bestseller.

This book was a gift for a 14 year old girl who enjoys reading. She adores the book and wants to keep it. I enjoy finding books for her and hopes she will one day become a member of our book club.

From the Author's Note: "From first to final draft, the novel went through eight major revisions until my editor and I were finally satisfied that the novel accomplished what it set out to do; that is, be a love story first and foremost, and secondly-in a way that sneaks up on the reader-a compelling thriller.

Love story or thriller? A combination of both this Sparks novel is sure to please his regular readers as well as a broader audience. If you have ever enjoyed books Mary Higgins Clark and have yet to read Nicholas Sparks this is the book to try! Julie, a young widow, re-enters the dating scene only to find a few surprises wanting for her. Who is this Guardian and why is it so important that she has one?

Still living in the small town of Swansboro, North Carolina, twenty-nin-year old Julie is emotionally ready to make a commitment to someone again..But Who?...From the author of some of the most memorable love stories of our time comes an explosive tale of betrayal and obsession-and a daring look into the darker realms of the heart."
