Here is a story about a little lady bug who goes up against some big competition only to realize that the worst competition he had was himself

My 4 year old still has me read this book to him, and he has had it since he was 1yr. It is full of color and a sweet lesson on being nice. It also shows, very simply, how silly one appears when they are grouchy over silly things.
"Hey you," said the grouchy ladybug, "Want to fight?"
Not only does the bad-tempered protagonist ask once -- he tries to pick a fight with every single character in the book! Only to get smacked around by a whale at the end.
Perhaps it "invites children to explore the concepts of time, size, shape, and manners" as advertized on the back cover...I think the more poignant lesson is that the biggest guy wins. It's disappointing to see author Eric Carle's award-winning investment in a book with such an unpleasant tone.
The book appears to be written for a 3-6 year old audience (in my opinion), but it's one children's story that we won't be keeping on our shelf.

This book is so cute and funny! Will the grouchy ladybug ever get his aphid meal?
My daughter (2 years old) loves Eric Carle books. She particularly liked this book as it shows different animals and the pages are interactive. Very good book.

Perfect for kids!
Big bright pictures accompany a wonderful story on learning to be friendly and sharing. Classic Carle.

GOOD BOOK,JUST ALITTLE TOO MUCH FOR MY AGE GROUP,SO I HOPE THERE IS SOMEONE ELSE WHO CAN USE IT.
Another kids favorite from the author of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."
Great to read/act out for preschoolers.
A book that has an important message for the young ones. It is one of the books which will be repeated over and over again. Our youngest granddaughter [4 yrs] loves it. The ladybug captured her interest and the story kept it. She has, since reading it, been a little more reserved before acting out and just mentioning that she might be a ladybug generally quiets her down. Great book.
