Sorry Steve Alten.....loved your MEG series of books about sharks but really hated this one!!! Just could not get into it and came off as way too POLITICAL !!!!!

If you can ignore all the left wing, New World Order, religous stuff he piles in here, its actually a good story. I will read the next book in the series. The stuff he writes about how a biological warfare could be started is really scary. All the other stuff is well, off the wall.

With "Grim Reaper", Steve Alten takes the reader on a romp through an apocolyptic Manhatten.
When a deranged woman releases a supercharged plague virus at the United Nations the government is forced to isolate the whole island from the rest of the world. Those trapped inside are forced to extreme measures to survive.
There is plenty of action, both military and interpersonal as the book unfolds. But I felt the religous/metaphysical/philosophical content was a bit heavy and overbearing...not to mention confusing. Let's face it, the Door's Jim Morrison as an incarnation of Noah is a little hard to swallow as is God in the guise of a holocaust-surviving psychiatrist who becomes our hero's companion.
All in all, the book was interesting and original and the end is a real kicker. Enough so that I plan to read the sequel. If you enjoy end-of-the-world-type novels, you will enjoy "Grim Reaper". Alten makes you wonder about things even if the end is a little muddy. Well worth the time to read it.

WOW a complex and convoluted script that did I admit take time to get sorted but then it was a steam roller of a ride of terror since it is so very much on this nations horizon or could be if evil gains control of this nation.
IT is not a book to read before bedtime if one is easily swayed to have nightmares. IF you like Stephen King trust me Steve Alten is even better at the suspense and tale twists.
Brand new book in pristine condition if anyone orders books to actually then sell in resale shops
