While the narrative is a bit disjointed at times, the author comes across as heartfelt with his struggle between his family and its traditional Pakistani culture, and being a modern young man in the UK. His relationship with his father is a strong theme, as is the music of Bruce Springsteen, whom the author admires. You don't need to be a Springsteen fan to understand or enjoy the book (although I am ;-)).
