It has been many years since I have read a Stephen King novel. This is one of his best. I have seen the movie starring Tom Hanks many times and the book was perfect for filling in all the little holes. It really allows you to get to know the personalities of the characters, something a two hour movie has difficulty conveying. I highly recommend this book, even to those that have seen the movie as many times as I had before I finally read the book.

This book is incredible. It is a journey where you will need a lot of kleenex and will felt spent when it is over.

It is impossible to not feel some sort of emotion for most of the characters in this book. You will love them, or hate them, or relate to them, or feel sorry for them.

I am so glad the follow up events, a sequel if you will, were added at the end. It brought closure.

Having seen the movie many times, I was thrilled to finally read this book. This is one of Stephen King's best writes, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I understood the characters portrayed in the film on a much deeper and complex level after reading, and knowing what happened to Paul's wife was a sad, yet satisfying conclusion to the story. A moving novel that deserves to be read.

The best Stephen King book I've ever read. It is even better than the movie if you can believe it. You won't want to put it down once you start.

This is one of King's best. He always paints characters in my mind that I feel something for, be it hate, love, pity, or any of a thousand other emotions. This book delivers on that, with feeling to spare. Mr. King is a master at taking us on a journey and this is one of the most exhausting journeys he could have taken me on. I originally read this when it was introduced piecemeal and, although I couldn't wait to read the next one, I was happy for the respite in between. It gives a believable look at what death row was like all of those years ago and, especially interesting since it is coming from a man from Maine (the whitest state in the nation), it gives us a good look at racism at it's worst. King's characters, although complex, are never confusing. This makes for a much easier and more comfortable read, something that I have come to look for in other authors and rarely find. I can always count on Stephen King to do the work for me and to carry me through the labyrinth that is his imagination.

I originally read this story when it first came out in the six part series. I loved it then and I love it now. The book is so entertaining and keeps you wanting more. It seems that you know the characters and start feeling something for each of them. Yes, including the mouse. What a wonderful, entertaining story.

Story about death row during the Great Depression, from the point of view of the 'regular' guards on E Block. Loved the ending, which followed the main character into old age and how his experience with a prisoner's "healing" touch affected him, and the other guards.
