DieHard avatar reviewed The Great Raid : Rescuing the Doomed Ghosts of Bataan and Corregidor on
Facing an impending Japanese invasion, Douglas MacArthur is ordered to Australia having to leave his troops behind at Corregidor and Bataan. President Roosevelt decides on a Hitler first strategy which effectively dooms the troops in the Phillipines to their fates. MacArthur harangues Washington for supplies and reinforcements that never come. In 1945, U.S. Rangers lead a Raid on the Cabanatuan death camp to rescue hundreds of U.S. soldiers who suffered years of torture and starvation at the Cabantuan POW prison after having survived the Bataan Death march and Japanese invasion of the Phillipines. Made into a major motion picture by Miramax films. A must read for history and WWII buffs.
