The book starts off okay, and I settled in for a good scare. However, the author goes on and on ad-nauseum about her marital problems, her kids, her mental processes etc. and NOTHING truly scary really happens. Or if it did, I would never have known having to wade through page after page of her psychoanalyzing herself or her family. This book was a real letdown for me. Also she includes no photos in the book of the people involved, the home etc.

The book was okay, but had the author had a good editor, this book would have been better.

Despite other's good reviews, I have to say this was one of the most un-scary 'scary' books I've ever read, and I wish I would have saved my money. I didn't have much sympathy for the writer, at all.

Wow! talk about a page turner. Based on a true story. Ealine Mercado and her husband bought a house in New York adn had no idea that they were embarking on a thirteen year journey with their two girls into a household of hauntings. They experience entities holding them down in the middle of the night, floating lights on the ceilings, whisperings of their names, and more. This book is the true story of how family tried to and learned to cope with living in a haunted house.

Very interesting read, and one that I think will push people who are kind of 'on the fence' about ghosts to the believers' side. Well written and enjoyable, while also being thought-provoking. Quick read, as well.

I truly enjoyed this book. Believable story with out a lot of drama, which made it more scary for me. I couldn't put it down. Chose to read it only during the daylight hours. It is definately not a book for the person who doesn't want to know that fear/ghosts do exist.
This book will NOT be soon forgotten.

Story of family that buys a home and finds they bought more than they bargained for. They discover they are not alone. Their fight to stay sane and get rid of these unseen entities is a gripping tale. Very scary and a must read for any lover of true accounts of the supernatural.

The true story of one family's experiences in a haunted house. A little slow in some parts but overall good enough to make you want to leave the lights on

I found this to be a very scary read especially since I have had some of these same experiences in a house my family once lived in. I felt like I was re-living it and it truly terrifed me! I had to put the book down numerous times before I could finish it. A great read!!

I read this several years ago and its one of those books that stays with you for a looooong time. You remember words, scenes, situations, can even visualize parts as I said years later. This book will always stay with me. It is fascinating and just as exciting as watching a Ghost Adventurers episode (if you are in to that) or that show called "A Haunting" where people would recount their own haunting stories. If you love a good ghost story then do not pass GO do not collect 200.00 dollars go directly and buy this lol. Ok too much Monopoly.

Just about everyone loves a good ghost story, but what does one do when it seems as if the very fabric of reality twists and the vastness of the shadowy unknown peers out from behind the everyday rhythm of life? In Grave's End: A True Ghost Story, Ms. Mercado addresses this issue with wrenching candor. Although this may not be a book to read in an old, shadowy house at midnight, the story offers both fear and hope, and a sense of something eternal.

By the time Elaine Mercado and her first husband bought a charming - but somewhat dilapidated - Victorian-style house in Brooklyn, New York, in the winter of 1982, they had been house-hunting for a little over a year and were quite anxious to settle into a home of their own. Although the house was in need of some serious renovation, it was within their price range and they were more than content to do the work required to make the house their own. Little did they realize that they and their two young daughters would be embarking on a nightmare that would last for thirteen years.

Within a few days of moving in, Elaine and her eldest daughter - eleven-year-old Karin - began to experience the sensation of being watched. Next came the scratching noises and inexplicably weird smells, followed by whispering voices, maniacal laughter, fluffy, dust-ball sized apparitions flitting along baseboards, and mysterious orbs of light floating along the ceilings. Almost from the day the family moved in, each member was targeted by the haunting in some way; "suffocating dreams" were experienced by everyone except for the youngest daughter - five-year-old Christine. Eventually, these paranormal experiences escalated to actual acts of physical aggression directed at Elaine and both the girls.

This is the true story of how one family tried to cope with living in a haunted house. It also describes how, with the help of famed parapsychologist Dr. Hans Holzer and psychic medium Marisa Anderson, the family finally discovered the tragic and heart-breaking secrets buried in the house at Grave's End. As of the publication of this book, Elaine Mercado continues to live in the once-haunted house with her family.

I certainly enjoyed reading this book; as I always love reading true accounts of paranormal experiences. In my opinion, the story was very descriptive; written in a down-to-earth style that I appreciated. According to the author, while there is still residual paranormal activity, the primary source of the haunting has been cleansed from the house, and she and her family are able to live in their house in relative peace. Overall, I would give Grave's End: A True Ghost Story by Elaine Mercado, R. N. an A+!
