I had a hard time finishing this one. I found it rambling and incoherant. As I've never read any of Stella Camerons other books, I'm not sure if thats her style or an unfortunate result of just this one. I'll probably never bother to find out.

A little hard to read due to severe cajun accents from the characters. Also jumps around a lot and is hard to follow.

I have really enjoyed this entire series. I have read 1-5 and number 6 is on its way. Love Stella Cameron's books . I like it when the same characters appears in each book. You feel like to get them.

Residents of a small town in La. are connected to a murder in New Orleans. Jilly Gable, bake shop proprietor and Guy Gautreaux, a New Orleans police detective (on leave), become involved when Jilly is threatened by an unknown source. The plot was a bit choppy, but the chemistry was engaging and steamy.
Jilly Gable was abandoned in Toussaint, LA by her mother as an infant, now her mother is back married to a rich antique dealer with eyes for Jilly and New Orleans detective Guy Gautreaux is out to protect her whether she likes it or not. This is a romantice suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Another crazy adventure in Louisiana. The little town of Toussaint attracts bad guys like bees to honey. Almost makes NO seem tame by comparison.
There's someone inToussaint Guy will do anything to protect. Jilly Gable is desperate to find the love of the family who abandoned her as a child. Slowly and methodically evil closes in on Jilly, and only the truth - and Guy - can save her. One of my favorites by Stella Cameron.

Murder mystery set in Tousssaint, LA. A ordinary man turns up dead and suddenly the entire town of Toussaint is involved in this mystery.

I am a great fan of Stella Camerons' books. She keeps me interested and I just don't want to put the books down.
I enjoyed this novel.
Great characters and settings. The plot wanders between small-town Toussaint and the French Quarter in New Orleans - and keeps you guessing until the end. One in Cameron's series of tales about these people and this place. Now I'm looking for the others!
The First Mistake: Dead: One ordinary man, just the latest in a string of losers in the wrong place at the worst time. Not the kind of case to yank New Orleans homicide detective Guy Gautreaux back from his leave of absence in Toussaint, Louisiana. The Second Mistake: There's someone in Toussaint Guy will do anything to protect Jilly Gable is desperate to find the love of the family who abandoned her as a child. And when the wife of a powerful New Orleans antiques dealer and loan shark sweeps into town claiming to be her mother, Jilly is all too willing to love and forget. The final reckoning Slowly and methodiacally, evil closes in on Jilly and only the truth-and Guy- can save her. Connecting the dots between the big easy and Toussaint all but clinches his case, but Jilly and Guy are still in danger. They have only each other for protection. But will that be enough?
A good mystery. A little too much sex. Female character, Jilly, is not very believable, but this is a good Stella Cameron murder-mystery.

New Orleans Detective Nat Archer heads to nearby Toussaint to enlist the aid of his partner Guy Gautreaux, on a leave of absence. Nat tells him someone shot and killed Pip Sedge in the French Quarter; the victim had ties to Toussaint. Guy says no as he still heals from a tragedy.

He is concerned that a woman claiming to be Jilly's mother Edith, who deserted her years ago, wants to be back in her life. Edith has brought her husband antiques dealer Sam Preston with her. Guy does not trust the Prestons or their bodyguard although he admits he has only a feeling about the duo. Still he investigates because he will not allow any harm to come to Jilly, but is unaware of the link back to New Orleans.
Though the flood puts a damper on this Bayou romantic suspense thriller, readers will still appreciate this fine tale. The hero is a good guy trying not to get involved, but unable to keep out especially since he is falling in love with the upbeat Jilly. She is the more intriguing character with her need to belong to a loving family sending her willingly into accepting the Prestons and ultimately into danger. Stella Cameron provides a strong tale, but the real world provides an eerie feel to the Louisiana background.
