Good story about an American air group flying P-51 Mustangs out of England in 1943-44 as they escort B-17s on raids deep into Germany. Contains some good air to air combat, crash landings, etc. Some of the book is spent on the love affairs raging between the young American fighter jocks so far away from home and the local English girls. Contains a couple of good strong characters and does develop them. Reminded me a little of Derek Robinson's Piece of Cake about an RAF squadron flying Spitfires during the Battle of Britain. This one was hard to put down. Really enjoyed it.
