Although sparse in character descriptions, you are still able to connect with the characters and feel their joys and pains. This was a quick and interesting read allowing one to learn about prep high school in the 1940s and young men enlisting in WW II. Yates has become an important author, of his time, and reading this book allows you to delve into his interesting writing style.
