My husband and I both read this latest installment and we really enjoyed this one. It has more than one subplot, and held our attention. As always, the writing is wonderful. This series is like comfort food â always satisfying even if it doesn't have the most substance. No profanity, no real violenceâjust great entertainment. If you've never read this series, start with the first one, and just know that each one gets better and better!

If you haven't read the rest of the series, don't start here. Get on the waiting list for the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and start there. Do it now!
If you have read the others, well, you don't need anyone to tell you that you will love the book. Mma Ramotswe, Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni, Mma Makustsi, Charlie the apprentice, and others are again up to their old ways, to the delight of readers around the world.
When this one came in, we pulled it from the mailbox at about 6 p.m. My wife finished it before we went to sleep that night. It's taking me a bit longer... but not much.

This is 8th in the series of the No.1 Ladies Detective Agency. I did not like it as well as its predecessors...maybe because there was less of Mma Ramotswe and more of Mma Makutsi and Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni.I doubt that this will deter a single reader because everyone wants to continue the series! I know I did.

I enjoy these books because the characters are always so constant. I love how Mma Makutsi talks to her shoes and is a little fiesty at times. I love how Mr. JLB Matekoni is quiet and unassuming and kind. I love Mma Ramotswe's philosphy on life and the way people should be treated. This book of the series had some good conflict which was solved to the betterment of all involved.

Once you get into this series you fall in love with the characters and can't get enough of them. There is more character development than drama in this book, but it is entertaining and endearing. this one was particularly enjoyable.

I love this whole series and this one is just as good as the rest. Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni decides that he would like to handle a case for Mma Ramotswe. Mma Ramotswe has reservations about this but decides to let him go ahead. Also, Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi have a falling out and Mma Makutsi decides to leave the agency. Reading a book from this series is like having a chat with an old friend.

Another in this wonderful series. Mysteries solved in the traditional way of Precious. Characters going in interesting directions and then returning to the same style of life. Completely cozy, comfortable reads, every one of these books.

This is a most comfortable series. I think the author's background in the countries about which he writes makes the reader trust him and feel good about the people in the tales from Mme. Ramotswe and her sidekick, Mme. Mamkutsi, to the clients that they serve. The cases they investigate are often simple and so very human. I really enjoyed this one even when Mme. Romotswe's husband, Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni, decides to try being a detective and discovers that is isn't as easy as it seems. The is another delightful read in this series.

Life goes on in Botswana. Mma Ramotswe is asked by a distant cousin to look into 3 mysterious deaths at the hospital in her home town, and Rra JLB Matekoni wants to handle the investigation into a suspected philandering husband on his own. But The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency and Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors garage are going through a period of upheaval - Mma Makutsi has decided to resign, and so has the apprentice Charlie, who wants to start his own taxi service. Mma Ramotswe handles it all with her usual grace and deft touch, and the author's love for Botswana shines through his lyrical prose as always.
This series of books about the #1 Ladies Detective Agency is a delight and a rare into a "pleasing" journey into Africa. Having met McCall Smith in person, I would agree that he is a delight and "pleasing" person, also.

Always a fun read! This author entertains and manages to teach lessons on human behavior without being preachy. This series is humorous and sensible at the same time.

Long live Mma Ramotswe! Book 8 is as charming the previous 7...maybe more since we are becoming so well aquainted with her. This one lets us have a little glimpse into Mr.Matekoni's personality. Fun sweet book

It's been a while since I read these (Kalahari Typing School was the last), and I would say that the characters are becoming more, as she would say, complicated.
