Really interesting premise: a young woman is murdered and her ghost is caught in the loop of her death for thirty years, until a psychic makes contact and is able to break the loop. But the medium didn't rescue Jensen Murphy out of goodness. She has plans for the ghost girl, plans that include revenge for an unsolved murder.

I really liked Jensen's character, and not just because she was an 80s girl who liked Oingo Boingo. She has her own personality and she's not perfect or too good. And her ghost abilities have a learning curve. She's got to work at it and practice, not just automatically becoming Super Heroine after a nice nap. *cough* Bella *cough*

Not so sure about the ending, though, which is why this book doesn't get more stars. Not enough hints at the outcome along the way. And I'm really glad this is going to be a series, not just because I want to see more of fake Deanokay, well, maybe a little.

I liked things about this book but not the whole thing.

Plot: Pretty much what it states on the back of the book, and probably prettier than I can do but here we go. Jensen Murphy was viciously murdered in the 80's. It appears her murder could have come from any generic horror movie though since you only get glimpses of it in this book we never know. She was then stuck in a reoccurring time loop which she plays out her murder over and over again until Amanda Lee a medium finally finds her and manages to pull her out 30 years after her death. Though Amanda Lee has her own shellfish motives for doing so. Amanda plans to use Jensen to prove that Elizabeth Dalton was killed by her ex-fiancé Gavin. After getting justice for Elizabeth, Amanda Lee promises she will try to help Jensen track down her own murder since her case has been cold all these years.

Things I liked:
a.) I liked the spunk the main character had and the fact that she as a ghost could interact with the real world.....b.) I like the plot but I wish she had gone a little darker with this book.....c.) I like the world and supernatural creatures that roam it..... d.) I liked the goofy friends that Jensen amasses.....e.) I liked the minor powers Jensen has......

Things I didn't like:

To me it was a.) too long.... b.) way to easy to figure out who the baddie was... c.) way to easy for the ghosts to amass power and do bad things to the living.... D.) there appears to be a budding romance between not only the ghost main Jensen character and the presumed bad guy Gavin, but it also looks like this might turn into a love triangle because of Fake Dean too. Lord knows what fake Dean is though. Anyway I dislike ghost and human romances, and love triangles.....e.) Amanda lee.

I'll probably be picking the next one up to see where it goes from here but after that who knows.

Thirty years ago, Jensen Murphy was murdered...her killer never found. Since then she has been stuck in a loop, reliving the last violent minutes of her short life. When Psychic Amanda Lee Minter pulls Jensen out of the loop, Jensen is grateful. Amanda asks her to help her solve a mystery. Her friend Elizabeth Dalton was killed two years ago. Amanda believes Elizabeth's ex-boyfriend, Gavin Edgett, killed her. She asks Jensen to scare him into a confession.

This is the first book in the Jensen Murphy, Ghost for Hire trilogy. I thought the premise of the story was interesting. I liked that Jensen didn't know she has powers or how to handle them until she spoke to other ghosts who taught her some of the things she can now do. Of course, there is a learning curve for these things.

The story started out well, but then it slowed to a crawl until the halfway point. There is a mysterious character that Jensen calls "FakeDean" because he looks exactly like her old boyfriend. I'm looking forward to finding out more about this character. I'm not sure if he is a good guy or a villain. My rating: 4 Stars.
