The Letty Dobesh Chronicles books 1-3 (The Pain Of Others, Sunset Key, & Grab) Short stories that have apparently been optioned by the TNT network & is now a TV series. I'm not interested in watching it after reading the book. Crouch has commentary at the end of each story to explain why the screenplay was changed, etc, etc. Letty is an alcoholic crystal meth junkie who likes to steal things and pick pockets & sometimes gets custom jobs from a psychopath. The 1st story she's robbing a hotel room and the guests arrive so she has to hide and overhears a murder plot that she somehow must try and stop, all while jonesing for meth. The 2nd story she's sent on a job by the psychopath to steal a valuable paining from a man who's having his last night of freedom with her before he starts his prison sentence. The 3rd story she's on a quest to stay sober and goes to Las Vegas (really?) and helps out on a casino robbery.
Letty Dobesh is an addict, an ex-con, and a thief. She's been out of prison for six months and working in a diner at night. During the day, she is picking pockets and stealing from hotel rooms in swanky hotels. While cleaning out a room in a luxury hotel, Letter overhears two men talking. One man is hiring the second to kill his wife. Letty may be a thief, but she isn't about to let an innocent woman be killed. She has to stop this murder.
A couple of years ago I watched the TV-show called "Good Behavior" which featured Letty Dobesh, a woman who tends to make some very bad choices. When I saw this audiobook, I thought I'd check it out. There are three novellas. The first one is what the pilot of the show was based on. The show followed the story closely for a while, then took a 180-degree turn. The other two novellas take place a few months later and are equally entertaining.
Julie Whelan does a great job with the narration. Between the novellas, the authors tells us how he came up with this character and ended up helping with the TV show. All of the information was interesting and the stories were fun. Letty may be a thief and a con, but you can't help but cheer her on. My rating: 5 Stars.

WOW! Simply WOW! I knew that if Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) was going to play Letty Dobesh, that this was going to be awesome! I loved these three short stories and if they are an example of what's to come GOOD BEHAVIOR will be a big hit. These stories were pretty much followed word for word in the TV version except for for a few twists.
Thoroughly enjoyed them. There is a lot of suspense in them and the bantering of the characters will have you snorting with laughter. Read these before watching the TV series and then sit back and be amazed at the acting ability of Dockery. We ain't at Downton anymore ladies!

Not the best
3 short stories based on one character now a tv show that I won't be watching
The Wayward Pines is the best, get this series and forget the Letty series

I didn't realize that there was a TV series with this character. I like everything Crouch writes so I just knew it was a book I had not yet read by him. It is good but different than his others I have read in that it is 3 stories involving the character, Letty. She's not particularly likeable but she IS interesting and the stories are exceptionally good. They are intense and have a Hitchcockian twist. It is fun reading.
