That blissful, satisfied sigh you hear is me. I devoured Gone Tomorrow in less than a day, all 421 pages. No, it isnt deathless prose, not even for an action thriller, but it is what Lee Child and his protagonist Jack Reacher do best - slam into you at full tilt from the opening lines while you hang on for a thrill ride.

Suicide bombers are easy to spot. They give out all kinds of telltale signs. Mostly because theyre nervous. By definition theyre all first timers.

Jack Reacher is on the Lexington Avenue local at 2AM and remembering all the training he had by Israeli counterintelligence and watching a woman that fits the profile perfectly. Shes wearing a bulky oversized parka on a hot fall day and its zipped to the neck. She keeps muttering, as if reciting a prayer, her hands hidden in a small backpack on her lap wrapped around something hard like the battery and detonator switch. But surely its the wrong time not enough people, but it was impossible for Reacher to ignore. He figures hes as dead where he sits as he will be closer, so he approaches. Trying to calm her, he says hes a cop. Instead, she pulls out a gun and kills herself with a .357 Magnum through her head.

Coffee with Jacob Mark, the brother of Susan Mark, the suicide victim and himself a cop in Jersey, has Reacher doing a combination soul searching and counseling a bereaved family member. Jacob keeps saying Susan had no reason for such an act. He is utterly convinced that, despite their distant relationship, his sister was a happy woman and not at all someone who would kill herself. At least Reacher learns how she was identified so quickly, she worked at the Pentagon. Was that why feds probably DoD - showed up? Did she take something from the Pentagon?

But whats really driving Reacher is the small chance that by telling the woman he was a cop, he was responsible for pushing her over the edge. The anguish and bewilderment of her brother hits Reacher hard where he is most venerable, in his conscience.

The book has its failing - including Reacher's bizarre lapse in geography and sudden ineptitude with cell phones, but he's back in kick-ass form after 3 weak entries in a row. A solid action thriller. You can find a complete review on my blog. http://toursbooks.wordpress.com/

Jack Reacher still keeps me up nights. This one was not up to par with some of the earlier ones but still will look forward to the next one.

Starts strong. Ends weak. Reacher is fun. Plot is as bad as these sentences.

As a veteran reader of the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. I will say that the end is very satisfying, as are all of Lee Child's novels; however, I found this book tiring to read. It almost had too many twists and turns; too many second guesses. It's the first time I can remember trying to skip over paragraphs to get to the story.

I think it's a weaker effort, but Lee Child's weaker effort is still better than most and this book is still very much worth reading!

There is no greater action hero than Jack Reacher , the ex Military Policeman.
And this is his latest and certainly one of his best adventures.
Like all Reacher books it starts with a bang. He is on a New York City subway and sees a woman. She exhibits all the 11 signals of a suicide bomber. So he trys to help.
Except things go amazingly wrong and he is pulled into a web of political intrigue and homicidal sadistic killers.
Bravo Reacher !!!

Good book. Lots of twists and turns and lots of action starting with the fist chapter and continuing throughout. Typical Jack Reacher genre. Lee Child has never done better.
I would have given the book 5 stars but to me that means there's nowhere else to go, so therefore 4 stars. I feel there is always room for improvement.

Contemporary Thriller by Lee Child, and 13th in the Jack Reacher series. Reacher is in New York City. In the subway, he sees a woman acting suspiciously. His military training kicks in, and lands him in trouble. Very good installment to a great series.

jack Reacher with the military background, train and fight terrorist in the U.S soil. Lot of actions, many twist and turn make it hard to put it down. This is a good thriller, can't wait for the next book of Lee Child.

Ahh, a very satisfying Jack Reacher-fix. This was so good and fast-paced that I could not put it down even for 5 minutes. At the end of every chapter there was just enough suspense and tension that I just HAD to know what was coming next. Unexpected twists with almost every page. I think this is the first Reacher novel that is told in the first person - by Reacher himself.

This is another outstanding book featuring Jack Reacher. I strongly recommend that you read this book especially if you are a fan of Jack! If this is the first Lee Child book then you will not be disappointed, however you will be hooked forever and will want to read all his books. This guy is a super writer and made Jack Reacher come alive and a real hero! Read this book!

Reacher does it again!

From the first page, Reacher is confronted with a life or death situation. In his rational calm way he analyses the situation, make a choice, takes control and steps into deep dodo!

Once again, he has to move quickly to solve the threat to himself and perhaps the entire country.

Reacher is a man of action who we can trust to get the job done. So far he has lived to tell about his successes, which he won't, but this time we're not sure.

I love everything about Jack Reacher and his thrillers, but this one, while haunting, did not quite reach the mark for me. Still interesting, but some areas seemed to stretch to be logical.

New York City. Two in the morning. A subway car heading uptown. Jack Reacher, plus five other passengers. Four are okay. The fifth isnt. And if you think Reacher isnt going to get involved . . . then you dont know Jack.

Susan Mark, the fifth passenger, had a big secret, and her plain little life was being watched in Washington, and California, and Afghanistanby dozens of people with one thing in common: Theyre all lying to Reacher. A little. A lot. Or just enough to get him killed. A race has begun through the streets of Manhattan, a maze crowded with violent, skilled soldiers on all sides of a shadow war. For Jack Reacher, a man who trusts no one and likes it that way, the finish line comes when you finally get face-to-face and look your worst enemy in the eye.

Another solid entry in the Reacher series from Child. This one really kept the pages turning. Reacher gets involved with a terrorist cell after he witnesses a suicide on a New York subway train. He falls into a web of lies involving an ex-Delta force soldier who is trying to get a Senate seat, a beautiful Ukrainian who is not who she seems, Federal agents and New York police officers. And along the way even Osama Bin Laden plays a role in the story. Another high recommendation for this one!

I like all Reacher books and this was no exception. If he's not killing someone within a couple of pages he's bored. I am always looking forward to the next book in the series.

The trains moving fast and it's two o'clock in the morning and a woman is sitting in the subway car with five other people and Jack Reacher. Somethings wrong and Reacher senses it, see's it and hears it. It's not good and his training tells him something is going to happen and soon. But why, at two in the morning ? It didn't make sense but would it later ? He'd keep asking himself that question because he was now involved. And that's not good either for Jack Reacher.
A fast paced novel that goes off the track for Jack Reacher, but for Reacher that's the way his life has been going - fast a furious and this is ride is no exception.

Awesome and riveting storytelling. Jack Reacher is not Tom Cruise, so just get that thought out of your head. The story is very action-packed and never slows down.

If I have one criticism it is over-the-top descriptions. Some of the exposition didn't need to be so indepth. Some people may like it, but I felt it slowed things down temporarily. He goes into great depth about weapons and size, use, weight, and distance it shoots. It's probably a guy thing.

My first exposure to the Reacher novels and I am hooked. Clearly the character, action, intrigue would make a great movie, but how terrible to hear Tom Cruise starring in it...

I am a new fan of Mr. Child. Great writing.
