andy Wayne White takes a stab at expanding his horizon from the Doc Ford novels, by rolling out supporting character Hannah Smith into her own book / series.

I enjoyed the book didn't LOVE it, but LIKEd it well enough. Pacing was decent, maybe a bit slow but not horribly so. I admit that I liked Hannah well enough, as well as the supporting cast although a couple of them were familiar to me from White's earlier writings. (BTW, Randy, this annoying little habit of referring to characters by descriptions and titles in order to build suspense isn't cute I find it kind of annoying. Especially when most of the time, we know who you're referring to, so the "reveal" - isn't. In this case, "the Biologist" ... yes, Randy, ALL of us know who you mean, unless this is the first Randy Wayne White book someone reads, of course.)

I found it like popcorn I enjoyed it, but it wasn't really filling and it didn't leave a long-term impression. That's not a bad thing popcorn is popular for a reason!

RATING: 3 1/2 stars, rounded down to 3 stars.

The only RWW book I've been unable to finish. After 140 pages I lost interest in hearing of Hannah's insecurities and personality problems. Theme of female fishing guide morphing into a private detective also a little weak IMHO.

Not a Doc Ford story, although she has a shadowy connection. I agree that the character is a liitle too emotional, conservative, and timid. Once you start shooting you must come to an end. I'll give him/her one more try. He'll make it happen. I've read everthing he's written. looking forward to another.

A pretty good mystery. But I had to snicker a bit at the male author's clumsy ineptitude when it comes to portraying how the woman main character actually feels about her female body and about sex.
