Every time I read a mystery set in a small town, I feel so bad for that town. I know that murder is hard on a town no matter what, but it seems unusually harsh when it continues to happen in a small town like this one.

These kinds of settings always make me both sad and nervous, because its dreadful when someone from within the town is targeting others who live there. Although we arent really for sure in this story, the assumption is generally that the killer is from within Amaryllis. Which creates a bunch of problems because the local police department wont ask for help from the state police, and it cant be forced upon them because all the murders have taken place in the one town.

Brandilyn Collins is definitely one of my favorite authors, but I was a little disappointed in this book. First off, she had affairs going on throughout the book which is completely unnecessary and from that aspect, it seemed more like a non-Christian book.
The other thing that I really struggled with was how she went back and forth between the characters. For the first 40 pages or so I had a hard time keeping them straight and getting the jist. As the book went along, it all meshed together and I must admit, the killer was SHOCKING! Anyway, she did author the book well overall, just disappointed in the immorality and having to get used to going back and forth between characters.

In the small southern town of Amaryllis, Mississippi there is a serial killer on the loose. In the past three years there have been five murders. Women of no particular race or age were stabbed in the neck and left in their closets earning the killer the nickname the Closet Killer.

When a sixth victim is found an unease rolls across the town but for three women in particular its not just unease. Its fear. All three women are positive they know when the Closet Killer is and all three suspect a different man. Cherrie Mae Devine thinks its the mayor of Amaryllis, Tully Phillips thinks its her husband and Deena Ruckland thinks its her brother.

Gone to Ground was my first Brandilyn Collins book. It was a truly gripping suspense story. In most suspense books I can guess who the killer is soon into the book. With Gone to Ground I didnt figure it out until the chapter it was revealed in. I was sincerely taken by surprise and it was a completely believable ending.

Collins writes memorable characters each with distinct personalities that make them come to life. I loved the way the women come together and begin to lean on each other while working to figure out the truth. I highly recommend this one for anyone who loves a great Christian suspense thriller. You wont be disappointed.
