DI Lloyd and DS Hill #3. On a personal level, Hill and Lloyd continue their clandestine relationship, needing to keep it quiet as co-workers are strictly forbidden to have such relationships. And then there is the fact that Judy is married, of course. LOL The murder in this book takes place at a boys' school when the vice-headmaster's wife, a known nymphomaniac, is raped and murdered. It seems all the teachers and staff are a bit weird, and there are way too many suspects. But Lloyd and Hill work to pare the list down. Another well-plotted excellent mystery from McGown; the series is not a best-seller nor as well-known as some other authors of British police procedurals, at least not here in America, but I think it's actually better than some others.
The math teacher's wife is anybody's--everybody knows that. Yet she appears to have been raped before she was murdered. Was it her older husband, tired of her promiscuity? The headmaster, whose own wife is cold as a fish? The foul-mouthed artist who hates women? I've been reading mysteries for 30 years and I missed this one. Can you figure it out?
I love Jill McGown's Lloyd and Hill series. Very tightly woven plot.
