Lush, emotional writing; interesting settings; and intriguing connections with actual history, since the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and their political sympathies are significant elements. As much as I enjoy Williams's writing and insights into her characters, I found the intertwined timelines hard to keep straight, especially since two of the characters share the same name.
I'm kind of getting tired of books with different time lines. Seems like the latest gimmick many times. But this was good, it worked with this story. With just enough history thrown in to make it seem authentic. I still find it interesting how people just flew around the world in the middle of WWII, but entertaining none the less.
