Wow! I love Lowell novels, I truly do. This one was an experience though - it followed three generations through a land struggle and love. It was moving, emotional and extremely well written. Yes, there was romance, but there was violence and there was drama and there was suspense. You never got lost, only fell in love with the novel more and more with each page turn. You will not regret picking it up and getting sucked in, I swear!
5 Stars, easily and well worth it!

Back cover: Leander Champion Buckles III dominated a room the way mountains dominate the plains. He loved Cira Pico McCartney, the beautiful half-Spanish girl whose dark eyes were flecked with gold. Though they could never marry, together they would forge a Golden Empire. Over the years the passion of the Buckles family nourished and built the land. And, as new gernerations grew up and took over, it was the same human passion that ultimately threatened to destroy the Golden Empire.
