I loved this book. It's just as good as the one before it. Tanith Lee is a very very good author with descriptive language.

Wonderful story! Second in the series. Tanaquil has an even better adventure than in the first one!
Tanaquil is a year older in Gold Unicorn. She is returning from her travels to see the world when she encounters a war led by the empress Veriam who vows to conquer the world and make it a better place to live. To her dismay, Tanaquil discovers that the empress is her sister whose obessions have made her a quite different person. Her artisans have builTa mechanical golden unicorn to lead the army and frighten the populations of the settlements into submission. However, it doesn't move so Tanaquil fixes it. She stays with the army on its conquests but is it because of her sister or the man her sister loves? Enjoy the funny names that Tanith Lee has given the men in the story - Honj, the lover; Mukk, Bump, etc.
