Outstanding author's first published book, a memoir of her Chinese-American family. Includes interesting stories of Los Angeles' Chinatown. See gives a very honest examination of family secrets, interesting historical details of the lives of immigrants, fascinating family anecdotes, and the meeting of two cultures.

This is a fabulous tale of Lisa See's family and their journey from china to the US, better known as Gold Mountain. The characters are bigger than life and if it weren't biographical, you could swear that the author had a great ability to tell a story. This book is engaging for the reader from cover to cover.
