I didn't enjoy the story line that well. It was something I had a hard time relating to. The female characters were unbelievable and the voice of the male characters did not ring true.

This is one of my favorite books. I have given it to several of my family and friends as gifts throughout the years and they all responded how much they loved it! The characters draw you into the story so soon you feel like you know each personally. A great story that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I have read all of Nelson Demilles books, he is one of my favorite authors. This book is a different type of story than any others he has written and is one of my favorites. When I first started the book I really didn't think I would like it, however after a few pages I could hardly put it down.

A great read by Demille. The Upper class Gold Coast of Long Island, A wall street Jopurnal man and his new neighbor get involved in the most amazing ways. From crime to humour, this book has it all. Friendship, suduction, love, and betrayal. The author is so witty at times I laughed out loud.

I loved this book. The characters are fascinating. Interesting historical info about Long Island. Mr. Demille's descriptions are concise but easy to picture in my mind. I would love to see this book made into a movie.

Well, here is where I admit that I messed up and ordered a book I had already read. Oh well, I guess it wasn't that good of read if I couldn't remember a title of a book I had already read. But I do still love DeMille as a writer, still read most everything he has written.

Probably the third time I've read this & enjoyed it again. Of all the DeMille books I've read, this has to be the best!

Read all of Nelson DeMille's book (except The Gatehouse). Gold Coast and Plum Island are two of my favorites. He intertwines fact with fiction and moves the story along. Gold Coast takes you into a world of Upper Class WASP's and the dangerous world of the mob.

You can't go wrong with a Nelson DeMille book. He describes it as the Great Gatsby meets the Godfather on Long Island.

Takes place on the fabled Gold Coast, that stretch on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America. Story is of a Wall Street lawyer and a Mafia don who draws him into his violent world. Excellent and fascinating!

One of the best writers out there. He's written many books but this is one of the best. Some may find it boring but the writing itself is worth the read. Great story, good plot, interesting characters who could ask for more!

A well-to-do lawyer and a Mafia boss become neighbors. The lawyer and his wife are drawn into a web which destroys their social position in the "Gold Coast" community. This is just the beginning of several lives unraveling.
I could not put it down, but in the end felt sad for all.

This was the first Nelson DeMille novel that I have ever read. Overall, I would rate my experience as average.

The concept of the novel seemed interesting: modern-day Gold Coast society meets the Mafia. However, I found the history of the Gold Coast, the ruin and abandonment of its palatial homes, and the allusions to the grandeur that was once the Gilded Age far more interesting than the story and struggles of the main characters themselves. The plot itself fell a little flat.

This story would have been much better if it had been told in a third fewer pages. In short, this felt like a plot that had nowhere to go and all day to get there. Very few of the characters were fully developed, and by the end I was at the point where I no longer cared about any of them. This was neither The Great Gatsby or The Sopranos, but rather something in the middle that rendered it anemic and easily forgettable.

I have heard that other DeMille novels are fantastic. Unfortunately, this isn't one of them.

Synopsis
A compelling bestseller set on the elite North Shore of Long Island, where a conventional socialite couple are unwittingly drawn into a shocking world of Mafia violence.

From The Critics
Joanne Kaufman
''The Gold Coast'' glitter is Nelson DeMille's sharp evocation of the vulpine Bellarosa and of Sutter, a wonderfully sardonic, self-mocking man betrayed by a midlife crisis. In his way, Mr. DeMille is as keen a social satirist as Edith Wharton....The novel bogs down only when Mr. DeMille insists - all too frequently - on ending chapters with heavy-handed portents. The reader does just fine without them. -- New York Times

Welcome to the fabled Gold Coast, that stretch on the North Shore of Long Island that holds the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America, Here two men are propelled to an explosive collsion: John Sutter, ultar-WASP Wall Street Lawyer, holding fast-if ruefully-to a fading aristocratic legacy; and Frank Bellarosa, the Mafia don who seized his piece of the staid and unprepared Gold Coast like a latter-day barbarian chief and draws John Sutter and his regally beautiful wife in to a shocking world of mystery and violence. Nelson DeMille's most stunning triumph to date.

THis book has passed through a few if not many hands and while the cover is a bit worn it is still in very readable condition.
