reviewed Going Wild: Alaska Wilderness Survival Diary on
In 1970 a young man goes into the wilderness of Alaska with no money, little supplies, and only book learning about how to cope with a subsistance life trapping for fur.

It was a good read along the story line that I most search for on the net. It is 292 pages of margin to margin print with a few B/W pictures.

I believe Miles was honest and open with what he tells us about his background, dreams, hardships in getting to alaska, his loves, and his heart ache. He says himself that the subcold months long nights of trapping endurance was easier that coping with the interaction of people and the hardships they created for him, like the time all of his winter supplies were stolen. He covers situations dealing with good people who help the best they can and the evil people who can leave you to die without a backward glance.

If you like reading about life extra ordinar I think you will enjoy this book.

He is still alive after more than 30 years of the backwoods of alaska.
