Meg has wanted nothing more than to get away from her backwater town. Dealing with her parents who don't understand her, she rebels. She does what she wants when she wants to do it, so she's no friend of the police in town. One night, a week before spring break, Meg and some friends decide to go to a bridge in town that's off limits. Before she can dye her hair another bright color, Meg is having to cancel her plans to go to the beach for Spring Break, so that she can ride with the cop that arrested her on the graveyard shift.

What Meg expects from the week riding with Officer John After and what she gets are two totally different things. She never expects that she knows John from high school or that they even had a class together. Meg also doesn't expect to fall for John. He's the opposite of everything that she stands for. But they both have skeletons in their closets and maybe they'll be able to help each other and find a common ground.

This is the first time that I have intentionally read slow so that the book would last longer. Going Too Far is a wonderful and deep book. I didn't want it to end. Jennifer Echols makes you feel like you're in the story. I felt what Meg felt, even though I've never been in her kind of trouble. The story isn't as stereotypical as you might think that it is. It gives a new spin and a refreshing look at how life can be unfair sometimes, but it's how you pull yourself out of the rubble that counts. This is one of my Top 2009 Picks and I highly recommend that you pick it up when you're on your next trip to the bookstore. Happy reading!!

My Thoughts: Awesome! We meet Meg who is a typical girl who gets into trouble a lot. She likes to live on the edge a little bit and it tends to get her into trouble. She works at a restaurant of her parents and they just kind of get "by." Her parents have pretty much given up on her with the way she acts. She has an eyebrow piercing, a tattoo, and purple hair. She is a bit wild. She just wants to leave the small town and get out in the world and LIVE! She gets into trouble one night with a group of friends and a few cops/ambulances, typical emergency call; come and arrest them. Each of the teens have to pair up with one of the arresting people. Meg gets stuck with John, the one who actually arrested them that night. She does not like him at first, she doesn't like the authority. He tends to grow on her and she starts having "thoughts" about him but in the back of her mind, she is always wondering why in the world does she like this 40 year old cop? She's only a teen!!! Well, things aren't always what they seem and there is a lot more to John than meets the eye. If you want to know what happens to Meg and John, read the book. Why is John so mysterious, what is his deal? Does Meg ever change her ways? What happens next?

Overall: Loved this one! I couldn't stop reading once I hit the first page! Why aren't there more teenage police officer romance books? Where the teen falls in love with the cop? The only two that come to mind is this one, plus Stealing Heaven by Elizabeth Scott. I want to read another one!!!!! If you can think of one (YA), please let me know!!!

This was a YA book but was highly recommended and I see why. The characters in this book have so much depth and topics are addressed that push the reader to think beyond stereotypes. Most YA books I've read deal with issues on a very shallow level. Not this book. The main characters seem so real you believe that somewhere they really do exist. The nice thing about this book is the secondary characters are just the same. The author treats them in a way that they don't feel like the typical 2d hap hazard side job that most authors are content with. The most wonderful thing about the main characters in this book are when you put them together with all the layers and problems with their past you really do feel like they were meant to fall in love. There is no pressure for the relationship in the book, it happens in such a natural organic way.

Meg pushes limits.

Right before Spring Break, she and her friends are found trespassing on a dangerous railroad bridge, under the influence. They almost lose their lives.

As punishment, they must forgo their trip to Miami Beach and instead each spend a week riding with a trauma unit in an effort to teach them a lesson.

Meg must spend the week riding in a police car with the officer who brought her in. She's unnerved to find that not only is he a few years older than she is and that they once had class together - but also that she's falling for him.

For Meg, the girl who doesn't plan anything and who runs away from any emotional ties, this week could spell out her downfall.

Jennifer Echols deals with the limits of life and shocking everyone in GOING TOO FAR, a novel readers won't want to put down.
