This is probably the best of the four books in the series. I was not a fan of Book 3 and was afraid the story was going stale. After putting it on the back burner for a while, I finally decided to read the final installment and I'm so glad I did. Iggulden really keeps the tension and suspense taut as he drives to the conclusion of Caesar's extraordinary life. This book has it all: suspense, action, romance, betrayal, and forgiveness repaid by further betrayal. This one is hard to put down.

I truly enjoyed listening to the authors rendition of how this bit of history unfolded. I wont spoil the ending for those of you who missed out on this classic story, but I will say that I was very satisfied with the book. I felt that the motivations, fears, hopes, and desires of all the main characters were well laid out, giving the reader a very plausible rendition of how and why history fell out the way it did.
