This book recounts a year that Maya Angelou spent in Ghana, West Africa, attempting to re-connect with her African roots and parallel these with her own African-American experience. Her descriptions of Ghana's markets and peoples is fairly accurate and her candor about her own struggles and expectations is helpful. For a person wanting to learn more about and/or travel to Ghana or an adjoining West African nation, this is a helpful introduction which, through descriptive language, transports the reader to a new land with new experiences.

I adore Maya Angelou's writings and this is another great one!
anyone who's ever read her knows how well she writes,a very intelligant woman.If you haven't read any Maya Angelou you may find a new favorite.
