Story of various people in government, diplomacy, and the military who have connections in Washington, DC. They include society women, VA horse farm owners, the son and daughter of a Senator, and a journalist. A novel that follows various careers, travels, love affairs, and tragedies. I've just read this book, although had it for years. Have been leaning towards older novels, without today's apparently obligatory extreme violence, sexuality, fantasy, over-the-top characters, etc. This story was a bit old fashioned and slow in spots, but I was always ready to pick it up again and read more. Keyes is now one of my favored authors, and I am ready to read more of her stories.
