I was a bit disappointed with this book. I'm a fan of dystopian YA novels and mutants, so it seemed like a solid choice, but I found too many things distracting to really get into it properly.

For one, it felt like everyone in the book was terrible at sneaking. The main character notes several times that she'll need to be stealthy and then goes running off because she says she can't help it. There's talk of hidden cameras, but most of the time characters seem to prefer to try ignoring them, staring at them, or dashing past them instead of acting normal or trying to bypass them.

I thought that the romance was kind of forced. Emotions are somewhat new to some of the characters, but I hated how each portion of the romance built.

Post-apcolyptic YA story. Zoel is 17 when she starts "glitching". Suddenly she is able to see colors, smell smells, and feel emotions. The problem is that anomalous behaviors are to be reported immediately by whomever observes them. She has to learn to mask the fact that she isn't "linked" like everyone else all the time.

Adrien is a boy in her school. While glitching, she notices how beautiful his eyes are. She is becoming more and more afraid that she will be found out and deactivated.

She is almost caught, but Adrien takes her to the Surface to escape. Now the adventure truly begins.

I really liked Zoel and Adrien. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this new series, Override.

The time is in the undetermined future where nuclear wars have destroyed most of the surface of the world and those surviving have moved underground. Whole communities have built below the surface with the governing body called The Community. When a child is born, they have a chip embedded into the base of their skull. Its to null emotion and other senses.

Zoel has been glitching lately though. Those that glitch have rare moments of emotion, taste, smells things that are otherwise grey when they are in the link, the computer components that make up their world. She knows that if she is caught, she will be repaired or even worse, deactivated. However, she has another secret that she wants to keep hidden, her new telekinetic powers.

She loves having the sense of self and wants to escape The Community where they are basically drones. But she knows that if she goes to the surface, the air is toxic and she will die. But when she finds another boy who is glitching as well and realizes that there may be more of them out there, waiting to be discovered and needing help, so they realize they are not alone.

With the help of Adrian, another boy whose face appears in her dreams, even though she knows she just met him, they try to get the glitchers together to escape The Community and join the resistance, a group who want freedom for all.

GLITCH is a fresh dystopian adventure with romance, action and a well-built post- apocalyptic world that had me up late turning the pages, thoroughly invested in the story. The characters are likable, but it is the world that Anastasiu has built that kept me riveted with all of the details and how the plot unfolded and came together in a nail-biting action-packed ending that will leave readers begging for the next installment, OVERIDE, due out in February 2013.

The summary for Glitch immediately drew me in, as I am a big fan of dystopian-esque novels. The book started well, but then a love triangle was formed and things started going downhill from there...

First, the characters weren't well developed. Zoe IS NOT a strong protagonist. She's actually quite 2D and very dependent on others. Pretty much all the characters in Glitch were not very well developed.

Additionally, the whole "love-triangle" took away my whole interest in the book as well. I didn't like either Max or Adrian; they were both unrealistic (and Max was kinda really creepy!) I think that Glitch could have been MUCH more successful if the love triangle was taken out.

Ugh...and the backstory! It doesn't make sense! Well, to give Mrs. Anastasiu credit, at least she tried to write a backstory... The backstory revolves around a nuclear bomb. Because of the destruction the bomb caused, the government lead people to live underground. The government also believed that human emotion caused them to drop the bomb, so they made a device (the "V-Chip") to stop human emotions. Make sense? It does to me...except one tiny BIG detail: How exactly could people live underground?

All in all, I wouldn't recommend Glitch. I was really hoping for another solid dystopian novel, but I didn't find one. I doubt I will be returning to the series in the future (yes...the publishers think they're going to be successful enough to have a series...good luck with that!)
