Fine, spooky thriller about a man who descends into madness. Or perhaps fights up out of drug-induced control to become the creature he was always meant to be. Lots of atmosphere here, and an interesting dilemma for the narrator -- the wife whose husband is becoming more and more attractive to her even as his behavior moves farther and farther from the quiet, civilized gentleman she thought she had married.
