This biography tells the tale of a boy growing up in a tough neighborhood. I enjoyed the realistic narration of events and the voice of the narrator. It was not always polished, but it was believable. In some ways similar to The Glass Castle, The Girl in the Italian Bakery gives insight to a childhood that is heart-breaking yet all too real to many children.
Loved it! I'm from the area and it is such a true depiction of the area. What a story though! I lent it to someone and never got it back. I may have to buy another one...
Firstly, I felt this was a good story. All the games and playing outside and way the parents did and said things was so true of growing up at that time, brought back memories. I enjoyed the story but at times it seemed to drag along and repeat the same things about his life with his friends. All in all a good read and inspiring story;
