I really enjoyed this story and Melanie and I am excited to hear they might turn this into a movie. I loved the first half, very interesting how Carey turned the story on its head and made me think about how these kids are being treated, regardless of who and what they are. The second part was a little more normal for this story type, but still interesting, action packed and with the same science vs human rights. Where do you draw the line.
Anyway, great apocalyptic novel that makes you think, even as it grosses you out. :)

Wow...just wow! Loved this book! Was assigned to read it for a book club & thought, "Oh, no; not another zombiepocalypse novel...sigh", but this is one of the best books--not just postapocalyptic books but all books, EVER!--I've read. Such great characters, so well developed, especially the little girl; very few authors can realistically write children; M. R. Carey can and how! Thanks for your art, dear author; keep writing!
First thing you need to know---this is a zombie story and not my kind of reading
this is the first book by Carey that I've tried and I don't know if I'll try another if this is what he writes all the time
the story is overly long, right at 400 pages and it just isn't good enough for that length as it is the same thing over and over after you get past page 150, so I basically lost interest by page 200
I'd say the glowing reviews are by ones that like the syfy aspect of it and zombie stories and neither is for me

Not my cuppa book. It was for book club and I read the first 50 or so pages and had to give it up.
I don't enjoy being disturbed or grossed out for pleasure. I find this type of writing totally shock-value based and unnecessary.
