One day after graduation, brand new U.S. Marshal Andrea Oliver has been assigned to a protection detail for a Federal Judge who has received death threats. But that isn't her only job. She has also been asked to discover who murdered the Judge's teenage daughter nearly forty years ago. Emily Vaughn was a pregnant high school senior when she was found brutally beaten on prom night. The murderer was never found; nor was the identity of the father of Emily's baby.

This book is the follow-up to Pieces of Her. The story is told in two timelines. First, we have Andrea's investigation into Emily's murder, along with her new job on the Judge's detail. The other part of the story is Emily's life in 1981 when she discovers that she is pregnant; but can't remember how that happened. Her parents are worried about the scandal she will bring upon the family name. And her friends totally abandon her.

I enjoyed this book much more than the previous one. I'm happy to say Andrea has changed drastically in the two years since the first book took place. She is no longer wishy-washy and indecisive. My favorite character in this book was Andrea's new partner, Catfish Bible. If there is a third book, I hope he is included.

I kept changing my mind about which guy took advantage of (raped) Emily while she was unconscious. I also couldn't decide if the killer was also that person, or someone else who had a grudge against Emily. I highly recommend this book. My rating: 5 Stars.

Not your typical Karin Slaughter novel. She's much better than this. Slow moving story, I was going to give it three stars because it (at least) held my interest somewhat. No good twists, relatively boring characters. but then the last couple of pages brought it down a notch. When will authors learn not to end a book on a cliffhanger??
