This is an Edwardian Romance. I remember it as funny and entertaining.
It wasn't very romantic, but then romance was the furthest thing from Belle Barclay's mind when she agreed to a make-believe love affair with the young Earl of Orsett. Her career in the theatre was crashing to a premature end, and it was money that she needed.
Pretending to be the object of the Earl's affections seemed a simple ruse--until everything became complicated. Too complicated. Suddenly Belle found herself head-over-heels in love--with the wrong man....

So delightfully written and funny! It's rare to see a book written from the POV of an actress who is down on her luck. Wonderful characters and dialog.
Well I am keeping this one because I will certainly want to read it again. This book is so cleverly written and such a delight. I gobbled it down all at once then I immediately went to Amazon to see what else Ms Merrill has written but unfortunately didn't really find anything else of interest. I'm so glad I recently came across this book it is a jewel and stays in my library.
