I thought the first half of this book was a little hard to get into. Although the Dickens character was quite fascinating, the central character, Dorothea, came across to me as whiny and not very appealing. About halfway through, however, she seemed to develop a backbone and from that point on I thoroughly enjoyed the second half of the book!
