Speculative fiction at its best. I can't even begin to describe the plot as it is very involved, but this book definitely stayed in my hands and I couldn't stop reading it.

I am not a fantasy reader at all, but the title of this book intrigued me. It was quite a good read, and I'd recommend it highly.

Umph. Abandoned 4 chapters in. It literally reads like it was written in the 80's and the pub date is 96 (so where are a lot of the technologies we took for granted even then? oh wait, its an alternate future, bah). The female characters are pretty well drawn, but the men bounce between mustache twirling bad guys and poorly drawn sketches. Add in the apparent 80's view of the 2000's and its not even worth the dollar I paid for it at the friend of the library sale.

I enjoy Sheri Tepper's work. This one brings aspects of current religious fundamentalism to a pre 9/11 America.

I enjoyed this book enough to recommend this to my mother with the caveat that it has a "science fiction edge". It isn't enough to make it star trekky ... just enough to not be straight fiction. My mother even gave it a thumbs up which says a lot. I do like sheri teppers worka and have read several of her books.
