This book grabs you from the very first paragraph! A fast paced, scary, well-written thriller. It has a little of everything, good guys and bad guys, good ghosts and evil, walking dead and werewolves. It does leave you needing to read the next one, but very well done!
This is the first part of the story (wish I'd known beforehand) that continues in 1 or more books. Although the plot held my interest, it ends quite oddly or I should say, it just ends. The characters are interesting and the story is a huge build-up to a climax that doesn't come which is quite disappointing. It started out great and there are a few good scares, but this struck me as more of a crime story with an occasional visit by the supernatural.

A good supernatural thriller with an odd ending.

Good horror novel. Get past the first few pages and you are swept into the town and characters and wish it would go on.
Good and scary. Just in time for halloween. Something evil has been revived in a small community after many years.
Pine Deep knows evil and it is a dark evil. There is conventional evil and supernatural evil. Fast gripping read that leads to a very visually appealing story. I would recommend this to any fan of the horror genre.
This is a must read... I couldn't put it down it's GREAT!! if you love horror and adventure, plus romance.
Great book to begin the trilogy. Maberry is on par with Stephen King and other horror authors. Enjoyed this book from cover to cover and the next two books in the trilogy, Dead Man's Song and Bad Moon Rising are a must read.
1st Mayberry book i've read. loved it. Fiarly long book, 472 pages. Blew through it in 3 days. Already ordered the next Mayberry book.
Yowza! What an exciting book! And what an intricate set-up! I am VERY glad that this trilogy is complete now that I am reading it - I don't know that I could have waited. The book was very exciting. The only thing that bothered me was the book's tendency towards redundancy. I suppose that a slower-reader, or someone with a poor memory would not notice, or would maybe even be grateful for the reminders present throughout. That aside, I am VERY interested to see where this trilogy is going!
I just finished this book and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I look forward to reading the second one "Dead Man's Song".
I haven't read a horror story for some time and wasn't disappointed at all with this one! I loved the story line and kept me in suspense. Can't wait to read the next two books in the series!

3. brutality violent and very graphic
4. foul language(most books have some but this was a lot)
5. storyline fairly good but just drawn out too long which was unnecessary
6. consider it suspense/horror I guess as there is no mystery to it

this is a great novel. highly recommened this. there are two sequels to thisbook.its about a serial killer gets murdered by a black guy then the black guy is lynched and they both come back as ghost.
