I'll admit it - I am a hard SF fan. The problem is that a lot of it disappoints. Genesis Quest (and its sequel Second Genesis) tried so hard. The author does a great job with the set up of the Dyson Tree Yggdrasil and the ramjet stardrive. So are the aliens (the Nahr). The problem is the characters don't feel right - like cut outs. The opposition are lifted straight from communist party meetings and the beer hall putsch. Combine with Bram's convenient re-discovery of human immortality and ...

I wanted to like this one better but wound up giving it 2 stars.
