This book was an easy read but a bit neurotic for my tastes. I much prefer and like the style of this author under her "Sophia Kinsella" alias. For those that are a fan of her SK books, I fear they too won't be too thrilled with The Gatecrasher.

The book was well written and a compelling read but Fleur, the main character, was definitely not a nice person! In the Shopoholic series, Becky may be silly & somewhat superficial but she does have a good heart. Fleur unfortunately is so self absorbed that she doesn't seem to really care for anyone, even her own daughter. Her upbringing may explain some of her behaviour &, at least at the end, she seemed to be trying to turn her life around but she wasn't someone for whom I rooted throughout the book.

Such a great book. I finished it in 3 days, I just couldn't wait to see what happened next.

I really liked this one. It was definitely much darker than her normal books, but I thought the storyline was interesting and the characters were well developed.

This book was pretty good, but not at all as good as the books she writes as Sophie Kinsella. It didn't move along as quickly and I didn't feel it was as interesting.

I tried to read this book. Unfortunately this book does not hold up to what I have come to expect from Madeleine Wickham/ Sophie Kinsella. Not entertaining at all.

She is also the author Sophie Kinsella who writes the Shopaholic series. This is a story of Fleur Daxeny who goes through more rich men than she does designer hats. She has great success at crashing funerals to find wealthly men.

Love all thing Sophie Kinsella!! So I decided to branch out and see about these Madeleine Wickham books and boy was I in for a treat. First things first Kinsella and Wickham have a completely different tone of writing, Kinsella tends to be really funny Wickham has a dry humor. With that being said I have really enjoyed reading The Gatecrasher. If you start this book thinking about other works of Kinsella you will be disappointed, so read this with a clear head, like you would treat any new author you are reading.

The main character of the book Fleur is not a good woman, out to get as much money from all different kinds of widowers as she can. But in her path of being a sneaky evil wrong doer she unknowingly helps an entire family get past a lot of emotional issues, and brings them closer. An odd tale about a woman scorned. I would definitely recommend this book to all!

This book was good but different from most chick lit I have read. The main character, Fleur is extremely selfish and out for all she can get. The other characters are well developed.

By the Sophie Kinsella (writing under a pen name), who wrote the Shopoholic series. Not the same as that type, but thoroughly enjoyable.

I prefer mystery, but really still enjoy Sophie Kinsella/Madeleine Wickham. It is not quite down-to-earth, but are we always looking for that when we read?

I giggled and smiled as I read this and like the characters was sucked into like the heroine, Fleur Daxeny, despite my resolution not to like her at all. It's a cute book, and having read some of Sophie Kinsella's later stuff, it's nice to see how she's grown as an author. More closure at the end would have been nice, it was like her editor said no more words and she rushed to finish, but still an enjoyable read. I would pick up more of her work as Mdeleine Wickham without hesitation.

I enjoyed this book from page one. The story line was original and the pacing was great, but what I loved most was that you really had no idea where the story was going to take you. Fleur was so flawed that the reader never really knew how the story was going to end until the last page. I only wish that the ending had been fleshed out a bit more but that is a small gripe with an otherwise highly enjoyable book!

Fun, Charming, Interesting, and very engaging. The characters are fun to know. You find out out them as the story unfolds and everyone loves a daughter that just shows up! Lots of funny turns, great chick book by the beach!

This book was posted accidentally as a hardcover, but it's paperback. I tried to delete and re-post it but I couldn't. I apologise in advance to whoever requests it.

This was the first book by the author, pretty good book, funny in parts, BUT the ending left me wondering about to many things. I can not see this book as a sequeal. If her other books are like this.....I will pass.

so i think its pretty well known that i love chick lit and especially love the shopoholic series. this is the first book ive read by sophie kinsella under her pen name of madeleine wickham. it was chick lit but had a different story, which i liked. the main character, fleur, is a woman in her later years (40s?). she lives her life going from one funeral to the next, shacking up with rich widowers and taking as much as money as she can get from them. (its actually a great idea, lol) fleur ends up actually really liking her latest conquest, and the story twists and turns from there. it was a work of art, the greatest book, or whatever- but i wasnt bored, and i really enjoyed the characters.
