Transported from Earth to the desert world of Gandalara, Rikardon and Tarani set out to find the fabled lost city of Ka. Aided by a giant telepathic warcat and a mystic bird, they uinderake a perilous quest to recapture the Ra'ira, the sacred gem of Dyskornis, and use its ancient powers to claim Tarini's rightful place on the throne of Eddarta.
This could be called an 'alternate worlds' novel. It could be called a romance. It is a mystery, as well as an adventure novel. It is also a great deal of fun!

Omnibus version of three books containing the second half of the Gandalara Cycle, a sweeping tale a modern man swept into a new existance, by a cause or causes only guessed about throughout the story. I contains romance, adventure, magic, and exotic animals and cultures held in contrast to what the hero rembers of his past life. I read the first three books and had to search for this set to finish the epic story. Will stand alone, and has a brief summary to get you back up to speed if its been a while since the last book.

Wake up to an enthralling read., October 11, 2002
Reviewer: Anthony Hinde (Sydney, Australia)

How would you feel if you were suddenly asked to live someone else's life? A life where you are being saught by the police, organised crime and an unwanted prospective bride. In The Gandalara Cycle novels, the old and dying Ricardo Carillo find's himself in the body of a young man, in an unfamiliar world, with a large lump on his head and a freakishly large cat stalking him.
There are seven books in this series and each of them is a good read. I particularly like the first novel because Ricardo is seeing everything with fresh eyes. His unique way of dealing with things prompts some interesting reactions from all those who think they know him. In a sense, many believe the problems of others are minor in comparison with their own. This story allows us to explore that theory. Can a complete stranger untangle a young man's life?

All seven novels are tied to a logical plot-line but this structure is only revealed a piece at a time. In this way the narrative is full of enough suspense and action to encourage some very quick reading. There is enough misdirection that we have to turn our personal theories upside-down, several times. This is good value, because each time that happens, you are forced to review everything that has already happened in the new light of new understanding.

Halfway around the world, finally in possession of the Ra'ira, they promptly lose it because of political intrigue. To get it back, they must find something as strong or stronger than the gem. Off on another quest!

This time to find a potent historical symbol, a sword made of iron (Gandalara is an iron-poor planet). The major problem is that it was last seen in the city of Ka, and Ka disappeared a long time ago. An interesting side story in this book is about Keeshah and his decision to start a family The sha'ums conversations always make me smile.

The book was origanally released a three short novels, 'The Well of Darkness', The Search for Ka', and 'Return to Eddarta'.
