Excellent story--by the author of Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands
Set in Brazil, this novel focuses on a peasant girl who becomes the chef in a cafe, transforming it into a prosperous business while she becomes the most sought after woman in the area-and her boss the one who is the most obsessed with her.
Delightful. Wonderful protrayal of a village and its people, their needs, desires, understandings and manipulations of each other. Recommended.
So well written and evocative. If it wasn't so long, I'd read it again, but I have many more things to get through on my book shelf.
