I'm going to review the first four books of this series as a "set" since they contain a world story arc that carries through them and most readers will prefer to have all four on hand before starting the series. This is the first book in the Riley Jenson Guardian series, which are paranormal romances set in Melbourne, Australia. Arthur does an excellent job of balancing the paranormal and the romance elements of the story and, while the moon cycle sexual responses of the werewolves echo a bit of LKH's "ardeur", Arthur pulls it off much more smoothly. The paranormal elements are well thought out with a few nice twists to standard mythos. Characters are well drawn, though a bit unbelievably perfect at times. Each book does have a standalone plot with a satisfying conclusion, but as I mentioned, there is a "world arc" that carries through all four books.

This was a good mix of paranormal mystery and romance. At times I worried that Riley's urges would hinder her, but she was able to use them to her advantage or resist them when she needed to. I also liked many of the characters, specifically Riley, Quinn, Rhoan, Jack and Liander. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, Kissing Sin.

When I first started this book I was wondering if it was going to be worth my while. It started out with a government agency that worked with non-humans. The book I read right before was "White Witch Black Curse" and it also had that element. It was a smooth and easy read though and the back story of twin wolves born into a pack that kicked them out for being half breeds caught my interest. Soon after something else caught my interest and had me blushing in the night in my bed with my little book like hoping my husband would not wake up to see my dirty delight. It was sexual to say the least and fed my dark desires very well. Though it had a great deal to do with sex, that alone did not carry the book. The plot was interesting and twisted just right and though in the end it left me wanting, but satisfied. The book at the end told of the next 3 in this series and so I have hope that more dirty nights to come. The con I have for this book is that it did not give much information about the world and how the un-humans came out of the closet or when. It was futuristic and did not give a good time line. I hope the other books fill it in more. In the end I have found a new writer to love and that is not easy!

Absolutely loved it! Not your run-of-the-mill vampire and werewolf passion-thriller. Great story and I am so looking forward to the next one!

Riley Jensen and her twin brother, Rhoan, are werewolf/vampire hybrids. They both work for the Directorate, an organization that polices supernaturals. Now Rhoan has disappeared and Riley fears he will be killed like many other Guardians if she doesn't find him. But someone is out to stop her when she is attacked by a werewolf who bears a striking resemblance to a Guardian vampire. Riley is rescued by Quinn, a vampire who needs to talk to Rhoan. They team up to find her brother, and discover who is cloning werewolves.

The first couple of chapters of this book really pulled me into the story. Riley seemed like a woman caught between two different worlds and not fitting neatly into either of them. But Riley, like all werewolves in this book, suffers from "moon fever" one week out of the month where she craves non-stop sex above anything else. Just when the mystery of what happened to Rhoan was getting interesting, Riley would stop to have sex with one of her two mates and the story would grind to a halt. This pretty much ruined what could have been a good book. Riley began to feel more like a skank and less like a heroine in my eyes.

Quinn is sexy, mysterious, and doesn't trust werewolves. I liked him from his introduction into the story and know he will eventually fall in love with Riley. I'm just not sure I will continue the series to see it happen. My rating: 3 Stars.

This is book one in a nine book series. It was a slow starter for me but once I got interested in the characters, it really took off. Now I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Reminds me of LKH Anita Blake but with a tighter story and crisper writing. This is a refreshing take on the werewolf and vampire mythology:: supernatural creatures are "out of the closet", they are part of society and part of the legal system. Sex is part of the culture of the werewolves. Having sex is a daily activity like eating, having sex for information is part of the job, having sex with multiple partners is normal and expected. So if you don't want to read a book about characters who have a lot of sex, this series is probably not for you! .

My biggest complaint about the story is when Riley is basically raped but still physically enjoys the sex because she can't help it. I don't really get when authors do that "betrayed by my body" thing. Rape is not enjoyable and nonconsensual sex leaves emotional scars - even if you know your partner. A lot of authors do this, Keri Arthur isn't the fist, and it just bugs me. Not enough to ruin the story, but troubling nonetheless.

Supernatural romance - filled with sexy vampires, randy werewolves and unabashed, unapologetic, joyful sex. "Parts" of it were just my "cup of tea"! LOL
